I’m so excited to share my very first pattern! If you read my last post then you know my love of wraps (and shawls) but also know that I don’t like shawls that wear me instead of me wearing them! This little wrap is the perfect size to drape over your shoulders for those chilly Autumn days which we all love so much and also makes a great lap blanket as well. I used Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick and Quick (here) and big needles so it works up fast and is very rewarding to make!
I set out to design a quick and easy wrap that will be perfect to wrap around your shoulders or lay across your lap on chilly days. This wrap is intentionally designed smaller to make it easier to wear.
Finished size is approx. 40″ long (not including tassels) by 25″ wide. It’s very stretchy so gauge isn’t very important.
You Will Need:
Yarn: Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick and Quick (3 skeins) (here)
Needles: size 19 15mm
Using long tail cast on, cast on 41
Rows 1-5 K1, P1 across
Rows 6-95 knit across
Rows 96-100 K1, P1 across
Bind off loosely.
Make 4 Tassels
Cut 45, 10” pieces of yarn and 8, 18” pieces of yarn. Gather up four groups of 15 pieces of yarn.
Using one of the 18” pieces, tie yarn bundle in center of yarn (at 5”). Fold
over so the tales of the 18” piece of yarn are at top. Take another 18” piece
of yarn and 1” down from top of bundle wrap around and tie in a knot. Feed
knots into center of tassel to hide and tie on to corners of shawl. Weave in
ends and trim tassels evenly, if needed.
Notes about making this bigger:
This wrap is easy to customize to any size you want. Simply
cast on more (or less) stitches in an odd number to change the width and repeat
rows 6-95 until you reach the length you want. Finish off with rows 96-100 and
add the tassels!
This wrap uses all of two skeins of yarn and part of the third to make the tassels so there is plenty of yarn if you decide to make it bigger!
I hope you enjoy this pattern and let me know if you make it and what you think.
